Write error
An error that occurs while data is being written to a diskette, disc, or disk drive. Below are some different examples of why you may get a write error when attempting to write information.
- With a floppy disk you may receive a write error if the diskette is write protected.
- When attempting to write (burn) information onto a recordable CD and that disc was dirty or scratched you may encounter a write error causing the write to fail and the disc to become a coaster.
- A write error may occur if you do not have the proper permissions. For example, if you only have read rights to a drive you can read data but not modify or write new data.
- Finally, a write error may also occur if the media is failing or bad. For example, if the hard drive is failing or has multiple bad sectors you will receive write errors.
