Attributes

  1. An attribute is any characteristic of a file or document. When referring to an attribute in MS-DOS or Windows, the attribute is the properties of the file. For example, if the file had a read-only attribute the file can not have any changes, it can only be read. See our file attributes definition for further information about this type of attribute
  2. When referring to an attribute within a Word Processor, you are referring to a characteristic of a character, word, or line. For example, an underlined word has an underline attribute.
  3. In database management systems, an attribute is sometimes used as a synonym for field.
